THE TRAIL-DRIVING ROOSTER

by Fred Gipson

Pub Date: May 11th, 1955
ISBN: 0890156204

Told in the vernacular by an old hand at Western fact and fiction (see Cowhand 1953 p. 374, Recollection Creek 1954, p. 757 and others) this is the pleasant chronicle of Dick the rooster, who happened to be on a drive with Guy Stephens and his boys-from Texas to Dodge City in 1881. Too young to eat and in the care of Sam the Negro cook, Dick becomes everyone's pal, the butt of jokes etc. Many funny incidents are contingent on Dick's doings and in Dodge City he plays his part in winning a case of race prejudice against Sam. Wild and feathery.
