Information technology consultant Igbeare presents a Christian action plan for dealing with various world challenges.
In his slim nonfiction work, the author draws on Christian Scripture to paint a grim picture of humanity in which people are not only inclined to do evil to one another, but are also beset by evil on all sides. He starts by quoting Jeremiah 17:9’s pronouncement that “the heart is deceitful above all things.” In Igbeare’s view, all problems are rooted in sin, and in these pages, he lays out his tactical responses to them. “This book seeks to help you understand the link between embracing God’s way of love and gaining access to the kingdom of heaven for eternal life,” he writes. “You do want that access, because, in God’s kingdom, all human problems (which are rooted in sin) will be terminated completely, permanently.” Igbeare writes with an appealing simplicity that’s well matched to the simplicity of his main conviction, which is that loving each other in God's name can have “astounding” effects in the world. He effectively takes his readers through an array of problems, drawing on smaller-scale stories of his own life (encountering a treacherous road while driving, for instance) and headline-grabbing stories, such as the Arab-Israeli conflict, which he refers to as “a saddening example of a human situation that only God can solve.” In all cases, he offers key points and key passages from the Bible, all centered around his primary contention that God’s foremost command is for people to love one another: “When we obey God’s commandments to love others, great things do happen.” It’s a straightforward message that may have immediate appeal for a Christian readership.
A plainspoken and passionate Christian argument for the power of love.
