On the assumption that you can never get enough of a good thing, the therapist authors (Brauer Stress and Pain Control Medical Center, Pale Alto, CA) urge us into shape for orgasms lasting ""thirty minutes to an hour or more."" For women, this means continuous muscle contractions for that amount of time; for men, a ""first-stage"" orgasm, the peak just before ejaculation. There are lots of stage-setting preliminaries: praise for trust as pleasure-enhancing; pelvic exercises; three sessions of ""self-stimulation"" within a two-week preparatory period (for men, the object is to be able to delay ejaculation for at least 15 minutes; for women, to have several orgasms using ""hands only""). In the marathon sessions, the man first stimulates the woman to orgasm clitorally, then uses his hands to locate the much-ballyhooed ""G spot."" Next the man is manually stimulated, first genitally, then at ""the external prostate spot."" You are permitted (and permitted is the word, for the authors are highly directive) to use this as a prelude to intercourse, or to introduce oral variations. As if all these ""training"" programs weren't enough of a turn-off, the authors actually promise increased health, serenity, and happier marriages--which is plain poppycock. But there will be the curious.
