KIRKUS REVIEW

Freda White's excursion from Beurges to Bordeaux, following the southern tributaries of the Loire to the Atlantic coast, leaves no doubt that she is well acquainted with the ways of Aquitaine. She describes scapes and sites, particularly the Romanesque churches, muses on a maid who puts her in mind of the Lady of the Unicorn, or on the relation between the Scots and the French. Her book is a complement to Three Rivers of France and West of the Rhone, civilized and observant, although it assumes a certain preexisting interest on the part of the reader.
