THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT

ISBN: 0548439192

This appeared originally in 1911, 90,000 words in length; today the book will run to 225,000 words, and even so gives an impression of simply providing an outline, skimming the surface of the vast ramifications of government agencies. Here is Uncle sum at work, in all departments, and running through everything is evidence of a new point of view, resulting from the economic and political upsets occasioned by the first world war, and by the new and growing sense of social responsibility. The result? A complete reversal of processes, economic, financial- some good, some bad. This is not a critical appraisal of the government or of the New Deal, but the approach is definitely a friendly one. An important factual reference book which should be in every public library, school and college library; and in most business and industrial offices.
