ELIZABETH AND LEYCESTER by Frederick Chamberlin

ELIZABETH AND LEYCESTER

By

Pub Date: Sept. 19th, 1939
Publisher: Dodd, Mead

This scarcely proves the claim made for it of being a ""dramatic biography"" for it is a meticulously scholarly attempt to vindicate Leycester rather than a retelling of his story. Chamberlin endeavours to clear him of every charge, to prove him a paragon, magnetic, loyal, a soldier of courage, a statesman of insight. How sound his proof may prove it is not for the layman to judge. And the result is extremely difficult reading, what with annotations, documentation, citation and footnotes, one can't see the wood for the trees. Possibly a book for limited use in public and college libraries.
