CONNIE MACK: Grand Old Man of Baseball

We've had the Cardinals and the Dodgers. Now we have the Philadelphia Athletics, through their ""grand old man"", Cornelius McGillicuddy, sole manager since they entered the American League in 1901. A tale of ups and downs -- of peak successes (1910-14*) of big names -- Plank, Bender, Coombs, Grove, Earnshaw, Walberg, McInnis, Collins, Barry, Baker, Dykes, Miller and Haas, etc. Chiefly, the book is about Connie Mack, kindly, considerate, beloved, shrewd, a straight shooter. Affectionate appraisal.
