KIRKUS REVIEW

When Mr. Pough starts talking about cinder cones, big cones, calderas, tsunami, deep focus and tectonic quakes, he speaks as an authority on seismology. As past curator of Physical Geology and Minerals at the American Museum of Natural History, he writes about his field with a succinct verve that gives us well ordered facts about the significant crustal movements of the earth and the science that studies them. An apt introduction.
