The one more or less universal way in which the spirit of Vatican II has expressed itself thus far has been in the reform of the liturgy. McManus' purpose in this book is essentially to analyze the rationale of that reform, and he does so in the most practical way possible by an analysis of the pertinent conciliar document--the ""Constitution of the Sacred Liturgy""--and by a detailed explanation of the eucharistic sacrifice in its new form. It would be perhaps unfair to observe that the same ground has already been covered more than adequately in several recent works (e.g., Gerard Sloyan's Liturgy in a New Key and C. J. McNaspy's excellent Our Changing Liturgy); there is more than enough confusion on the subject to warrant still another book--particularly one as readable and as comprehensive as Sacramental Liturgy.
