Thinking"" is a little strong, as is the subtitle ""Poems,"" for these child-sized musings and observations which sometimes verge on cute sayings. ""The clock stops/ on rainy/ Sundays"" says one complete entry; ""Burning/candles/have/no place/to go/but/out"" is another. ""Our picnic got lost/ in the rain"" comes later; then, ""I eat my gumdrops/ one at a time./ Red, yellow,/ orange, purple--/ I have a rainbow/ inside me."" On the back cover readers are invited to ""think"" their own poems about what they see and feel; this is one of those unprepossessing collections which might, by its very modesty, encourage them to do so--but won't inspire any spectacular efforts.
