THAT TREMENDOUS LOVE

It has been many years since Bishop Sheen has produced a book (as opposed to a non-book), and the present collection preserves that tradition intact. It is intended to be an ""inspiring anthology""--and it is that, exactly, listing among its wholly expected contributors the entire litany of traditional writers of Catholic interest: Kilmer, Belloc, Aquinas, Newman Francis Thompson, Chesterton, Augustine, Bernard of Clairvaux, etc., etc., etc. The selections are also, for the most part, the usual ones--the short quotations, the poems, prayers, and philosophical observations. For all its prosaic, uninspired and unoriginal characteristics. Sheen's book will find the usual wide audience among lovers of old things, and there should be a brisk sale around Christmas time. It helps a little that the book is handsomely bound in red moire and gift-boxed.
