A SHADOW FALLS

A monotone recital of personal history and tragedy, which brings its compensations, by Anne Bradly tells of the devil driven life of Christopher Nicholson whose wilful directives affect all who know him. Loving him, Anne nevertheless marries unexciting Charles Madden and watches Christopher go his headstrong way in his affair with Nina, whose husband had helped him in his career. The following divorce and its scandal; the flight to England and the return to Canada; the arrival of Nina's son Peter and the collapse of her mind -- all serve to bind Chris closer to his doomed darling and he too breaks when she is drowned and his brother is killed trying to rescue her. Anne, now widowed, finally marries Chris but the marriage fails and Anne is left with their son when Chris is killed in a plane crash. A long soliloquy, this is pensive and, perhaps, pedestrian.
