In his introductory note, the author states that this version of the Austrian annexation is as objectively treated as possible -- and he has almost succeeded. A rather full birds-eye view of Austria, past and present, follows. Geographical and historical background, the Austrian temperament, the treaty of St. Germain and the Austrian political upheaval which followed it, and finally the three revolutions in Austria, those of February, 1935, May, 1935 and lastly, the one in which Dollfuss was murdered. His summarizing conclusion, that ""Austria is a small world in which the big one tries itself out"" carries a good deal of truth -- since the last word on Austria has not been said. Little personal, or anecdotal material, this is a detached and factual record.
