A DREAM FOR ADDLE

Addie Mills, that twelve-year-old Nebraska gift of the '40's who has such heartwarming experiences on major holidays, gets herself involved here with Constance Payne, a reputed ""famous actress"" who returns from New York to sell her dead parents' large house and turns out to be a shabby alcoholic failure. But Addie's persistent concern -- even after Constance throws a glassful of whiskey in her face, combined with the gruff charity of Addie's father who went to school with Constance and the sympathy of thoroughly Christian Gram, help bring to Constance an Easter message of hope for a new start. Like Rock's Thanksgiving and Christmas stories (KR, 1974), this is adapted from a TV special (The Easter Promise); again, the sentimental situation is buttressed by '40's memorabilia (such as the godawful rickrack dress Addie makes for a style show) observed with fond amusement.
