EXPLORING WITH METRICS

Comparing Americans with their English system of measurement to a person speaking English where everyone else speaks a language called Gobbledygook, the authors disregard all questions of the two systems' relative rationality, sensibly recommending that the easiest thing to do is to learn Gobbledygook. This then is an introduction to that foreign system, explaining metric units and suggesting activities which apply them (there's even a sugar cookie recipe all in grams), with no equivalency tables or references to conventional terms. Similar to Branley's Measure with Metric (p. 123, J-47) in its Berlitz approach and elementary level, this is altogether less ingratiating visually, but might for that reason be accepted by youngsters who want to avoid a babyish look.
