NOTHING IS QUITE ENOUGH

This is the sincere and moving story of a ""spoiled priest"", one of the many who enter a monastery and for one reason or another are not deemed ready to take Holy Orders. MacEoin began his novitiate at eighteen in the strict order of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer is Ireland, and survived his first test of a year's almost total silence. After his novitiate vows were accepted he went to another Irish monastery to begin the six years of study preparatory to his ordination, and completed his studies without criticism. Elated that he has passed his tests and would soon become a priest, he is summarily called by the Father Provincial to learn that- with no reasons given, he is not to be ordained. Once out in the world again, he has a bitter spiritual struggle before he is able ""with Faith's illumination to recognize harmony in the noise, design in the doodling, and beauty in the splashed pigments"". A self-study in consecration and rejection, which holds its greatest interest for Catholic readers although the Merton books have indicated the possibilities of a general audience.
