KIRKUS REVIEW

Another of the outdoor study books (cf. Birds, Deserts), but not a book for the random reader of animal stories, but limited largely to the real student of nature, to schools and colleges. In its field, very good -- and the 68 illustrations are fine examples of animal photography. Animals are shown at home, as parents, growing up, reproducing, getting food, protection, air, animals in motion and at rest. For the most part the animals discussed are the lower forms, since they illustrate the greatest variety, but the book is a comprehensive one, dealing with insects, sea life, on up to the complex mammalian forms, reflecting in their ways the human modus operandi.
