There was an extraordinary amount of interest evidenced by the public when the news releases and extracts from General Marshall's Report on the Army were published. Editorial comment and news comment suggested that access to the complete report would be for the public good. Here is that report, and it makes exceedingly interesting reading. I think the thing that impressed me most was the objective view of the lack of preparedness, the inadequacies of the army, the defenses, the equipment, etc. And in contrast, the miracle of achievement. Without any attempt to apologize for the one or to use the other as propaganda for the Army, he lets facts speak for themselves, with occasional comments as to the home front attitude, the slow shift from isolation to intervention. The report itself covers some 100 pages; the appendix includes amplifying notes, charts, maps, diagrams -- invaluable for the student of military affairs.
