KIRKUS REVIEW

Early 1906's a small New England town, and the fostering of a civic spirit through one girl's personal, hard earned lessons. A bit on the sober side, this story of how Janet overcomes her rejection at being forced to leave school, and learns that education is not confined to textbooks. She makes a job for herself, develops a sense of responsibility towards her workers, and comes through to fame and a successful development of community spirit.
