This volume is a tribute to Professor James Mullenburg of Union Theological Seminary by a group of fifteen Old Testament scholars. Some of the contributors had sat Mullenburg as their teacher, some knew him as a valued professional colleague, and all as a interpreter of the faith of Israel. As the editors make clear in their preface, to work in the Old Testament field requires a knowledge of many subjects: philosophy, archaeology, a knowledge of the history and culture of ancient Near East, literary and form , theology, the New Testament and judaica. The diversity of interests in this volume of essays and the depth of scholarship displayed by the writers are symbolic of Mullenburg's life and thought. The contributors are among the top-ranking Old Testament scholars in the United States. In Britain and on the continent. This is a book which will be of interest primarily in Old Testament scholars, but by them it will be prized.
