THE STORY OF TY COBB

A sentimentalized biography, a big sports fan attraction, by a man who's done others in this field- notably, The Jim Thorpe Story and The Joe Dimaggio Story. Rather like a repetitious commercial, but an effectively repetitious one, this wave lengths Ty Cobb from his days in Royston, Georgia, and his quarrels with his professor father to his successes with the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Athletics and his quarrels with umpires, players and managers. Not too pleasant a person, Cobb was bull-headed and possessed of an unreasonable temper. But Schoor's biography glosses this and indicates Cobb's boundless energy as the root of his phenomenal excellent baseball lore.
