AFRICA DANCES

Gorer, an English explorer, accompanied a Negro dancer, Benga, on a trip to West Africa, with the building of an African ballet in mind. This is the fascinating record of that trip, by car, with Negro chauffeurs through the French colonies, the Ivory Coast and the Gold Coast. It is a revelation of the stupidity of the French colonial government, and a detailed picture of the primitive life, government, religion, customs and traditions. Many sided in appeal. Could be sold as a travel book -- could be sold in the art department for the dance material (though this is not so large a section as the title would indicate) -- and could be sold on its own as an honest and original record of a strange journey. Those who liked Empire of the Snakes are prospects.
