MAN AGAINST DISEASE by Geoffrey Lapage

MAN AGAINST DISEASE

By

Pub Date: Sept. 10th, 1964
Publisher: Abelard-Schuman

This is a short survey of the long history of man's fight against disease--through anesthesia, drugs, diet and bacteriology. The author, who is a doctor, is particularly good at revealing the inter-relationships of the work of such men as Jenner, Koch, and Pasteur. He also outlines the findings of such less well-known medical men as Eykman, Semmelweis, Domagk, and Chain. This is a readable book but its usefulness suffers from the lack of a table of contents. The index does not help to fill the gap because it fails to include a great many of the names of important figures discussed in the text. There is a list of Suggestions for Further Reading.
