THE WRIGHT BROTHERS

The title is misleading--: after rambling through trivia about the formative years of Orville and Wilbur, the author stops more than briefly to retrace the advances in flight before the Wrights' discoveries were made. Moving with the aid of artificial dialogue and lifeless description, the author goes from Sir George Cayley and his glider in 1850 through the experiments of Lilienthal, Chanute, Clement and others. In the end, he returns again to the Wright brothers and concludes his uninspiring study with their success.
