SEVEN KINGS OF ENGLAND

A companion volume to Seven Queens of England (1952, p. 132) attractively surveys English history from Alfred the Great to George VI through the activities of seven prominent rulers Mr. Trease has chosen to characterize in his personal, informative way. The seven are, besides Alfred and George, William the Conqueror, Richard I, Charles I, Charles II, and William of Orange. Though each of these men are sketched with strict reference to their own lives and times, these elements are treated with discerning breadth, and introductory passages to each of the following chapters outline important social changes and events in the intervening years. Convenient reference and a refreshing departure from the text books.
