Mr. Baxt in England this time and away from some of our wilder habitats has still not gone straight and it's just as hard for the reader as it is for Laura Denning to fill in the blank spaces. She is amnestic having been found with a knife in her hand in a blood-stained kitchen. Then there's the sculptor who is at work on a (true to?) life sized replica of Charlotte Corday; and her husband, a bore; and a number of other men in love with her. This is certainly not a mystery in that you can possibly detect anything but it has a certain aplomb to offset the egregious eccentricity.
