Something of an English, Little Man, What Now? -- this story of two brothers, one of whom knuckles down to the system, while the other rebels and finally wins through to personal freedom. There is the same impotency against the tremendous odds of today, the deadening effect of unemployment, of love giving faith, but the approach is mental rather than emotional. The thread of the story is slight -- the fairy story of the good and the bad brother converted into realism. But in implication it is an arresting book, and good for a fairly substantial market of the thoughtful readers.
