The history of marketing system in Great Britain and the United States from earliest times to the present. The author traces the struggles of humanity to satisfy their wants, and the part played in this struggle by those in power, kings, government, the church, guilds, markets -- a part darkened by the lust of personal aggrandizement. A sordid picture of the guilds, working to the deteriment of the community -- and a comparison with the present delegation of powers to political units as of equally doubtful benefit. Not a book for the general reader. The subject in itself has boundless possibilities, of which this author has not taken advantage.
