AZTECS OF MEXICO

A reconstruction of the history of the Aztecs through archaeological remains, an analysis of social, economic, environmental forces that affected their development, and the story of their civilization in its rise and fall. Broad differentiation in the culture patterns, the various types of art, the rhythms of development, the crafts and craftsmanship, the complex religious ritual and tribal organizations, the military and war machines, all leading up to the conquest by the Spaniards and its aftermath of the Church Fathers. Even includes a travelogue of places where remains are to be found today. A thorough job, neither pedantic nor dull in the telling. Should prove a good background book for Mexican travel.
