WILD HORSES OF THE RIO GRANDE

By

Publisher: Houghton, Mifflin

A fine collection of twelve horse stories by the author of Wild Animals of the Southwest and other animal yarns. With a first-hand understanding of the horse, not only as a utility animal of the West, but as a distinctive animal personality, Mr. Franklin tells a galloping good story. There is a wild mare who outwits her pursuers, a colt who dared to attack a huge stallion, an outlaw who learns gentleness, a hours who outwitted a rustler and other, -- all memorable. An introductory section tells how ranches were started in the Southwest and there is also an illustrated glossary of ranch terms. Lean, masculine in style. Horse lovers will appreciate the William Moyers drawings, too.
