KREBIOZEN: THE GREAT CANCER MYSTERY

A dossier on that still highly dubious discovery, Krebiozen- a cancer cure with no curative properties, is here presented along with many of the records in this controversy by the former President of the University of Illinois, one of its ultimate victims. Over and above the public's susceptibility to any panacea, this incident had many regrettable repercussions- political as well as medical. ""Developed"" by a Yugoslav Dr. Stevan Durovic and his brother, imported from Argentina, it was then sponsored by a leading scientist and the vice-president of the University of Illinois- Dr. Ivy, used in the Army and Navy even though no research attested to its value and it was later found that while a few patients felt better- they died just the same. The condemnation of the A.M.A. brought on Dr. Ivy's countercharge of ""conspiracy"" in the medical world; Dr. Durovic refused to reveal the chemical constituents of the drug; a long legislative inquiry only affirmed its worthlessness- Dr. Ivy still dissenting- and sustaining political as well as some religious support- while Dr. Stoddard, who opposed him, was removed from office by the trustees....A strange story, with wider ramifications which extend to the protection of the public and the abuse of academic freedom.
