An introductory section suggests the proper approach to plantings, -- what to use and how to use them, personal problems, needs and wants; how to buy -- the evolution of varieties and the question of suitability in use of woody plant materials. The emphasis is on selection for limited areas, rock gardens, etc. The main part of the book consists of an alphabetical arrangement of trees, shrubs, vines. Under each there's notation for garden value, culture, propagation, maintenance, etc.
