This exposition of the meaning to the believer of the seven sacraments of the Roman Catholic Church comes from the pen of the Archbishop of Le Mans. It is at once a scholarly and a practical book. The study of the sacraments is prefaced by three chapters which outline the theological basis for the dominant position of the sacraments is Catholic thought and practice. They are the media through which the grace of God is made available to believers. In the successive chapters dealing with Baptism, Confirmation, Penance, Holy Bucharist, Holy Orders, Matrimony, and Extreme Unction the author is attempting to make clear why each of the Sacraments is important both in its content and its form. This interpretation of the most sacred rites of the Church should deepen their meaning for all believers.
