RELIGION ON THE CAMPUS

This is not a discussion of the place of religion on the college campus as the title might suggest. Rather it is a refreshing example of how religion may be presented to college students so as to command their attention. The author, Professor of Economics and Sociology at Mills Collge, Oakiand, California, also serves as college chaplain. Many of these sermons were delivered in order to answer questions raised by the students on problems that were bothering them. Others were directed at showing the relationship of religion to such academic studies as the fine arts, science and the humanities. One would suppose that the student audience listened to these twenty sermons, enjoyed them and got something from them which would contribute to a spiritual interpretation of life. For here is down-to-earth preaching by a board-gauged, liberal individual with an engaging sense of humor. Dr. Hedley does not feel he has to be ""intellectual"" in preaching to college students. Nevertheless his sermons have sound intellectual content, particularly those in which he explains the Devil, the concept of Hell, or the place of the Cross in Christian faith. For all who are interested in stimulating religious faith on the campus.
