ONLY THE EARTH AND THE MOUNTAINS

Nothing lives long/Except the earth and the mountains"" was a prophetic song of a Cheyenne warrior which became the death knell of his people in the late 19th century. This, then, is the account of their attempt to retain their land as their leader, War Lance, digs his heels into the dust. It is also the Ramona-styled romance of Ben Kane, an army scout, and Willow, the Indian girl he marries. Living with her people, he leaves them after War Lance's atrocity killing of his former partner, takes a last stand to defeat the Indians, then returns to find willow... The long knife has a sharp edge here in a western historical of marked superiority.
