A boy, his father and the horse they try to tame and justify make a trio for a natural western that captures the mood and pace of open country and reveals strong ties of affection. Calico Jim Rivers is a lone hand horse runner in Wyoming and when he and his young son Eddie discover Apples; the wild appaloosa stallion, their joy at the prospect of taming the horse is tempered by two things: the local authorities are after Eddie to make him go to school and Apples' mistaken identity for another horse earns him an evil reputation. A simple working out solves a father-son antagonism when both see reason, and establishes Apples' right to give as Eddie's horse. Good. 8-11's too.
