For the sixth time, Nathan's pungent pieces on the theatrical productions of the year are brought together in a volume that comprises a running history of the contemporary American stage. As always, it is amazing how many plays opened and closed, quickly forgotten. Occasionally, Nathan uses his space for a small essay of some phase of the drama. Personally, I like his reviews of bad plays better than the ones he likes. His chart of a personal Honor List has some surprising inclusions.
