An uninhibited, informal, sometimes cocky and sentimental journey with a comedian, toastmaster, master of ceremonies, who recounts his marital, theatrical; radio and moving picture career in full. It has an honest ring, and is right in the groove of show business stuff, with many a tribute to fellow performers, friends and wives. Not perhaps literature, but as Saroyan says, in his introduction, ""Jessel is a great story-teller, not a great writer, but, occasionally, the energy and eagerness and loneliness of the man come through with a power that is both rare and touching"". You'll like and dislike this, but you'll admit it is a completely human record.
