THE ABOMINABLE AIRLINES by George Johnson

THE ABOMINABLE AIRLINES

By

Publisher: Macmillan

Although he draws the line at ""atrocity pictures"" of crash victims going up in flames, Johnson belabors the airlines with every fact and prejudice ever entertained by anti-flight groundlings. Namely, the airlines sell an undifferentiated product: ""... the same... airplanes over the same routes, at the same fares set with CAB approval."" They now have secured the maximum number of passengers willing to fly at today's prices, so they must seduce car-owners from their ""mobile wombs."" Fear of travel seldom prompts car owners to buy additional life insurance before taking a trip, but 50% of all air passengers do, in spite of the superior safety statistics of flight. As the reader becomes supersaturated with Johnson's arguments, he also witnesses airline executives slipping into the sludge of negative thinking. Their newest, wildest idea they've launched down the runway to oblivion is their excessive ""jet binge,"" which has put them heavily in debt... A stimulating book that in its wisecracking way really probes and raps the industry.
