PRESIDENTS WHO HAVE KNOWN ME

Publisher: Simon & Schuster

An unblushing, non-ambiguous autobiographical report from a Court Jester, which has something of a behind-the-scenes appeal in its political aspects, and a definite human interest approach in its outspoken account of the hows and whys of his career. Ensconced in cap and bells this tells of his Mississippi background, his early experiences in law, and the beginnings of his amateur politics --law, hotel finance, political affiliations, District Commissioner of Washington (through Pat Harrison), Relief Administrator, etc.- until with Democratic upsurge the author was In..... From then on it is this and that -- sometimes not so friendly -- about F.D.R., campaigns, Wallace, Truman (here an unqualified backing), missions, wartime assignments, golf course conferences, and altogether a very ""I"" recall. Brash -- and not too important -- this will have its audience among the myopic footnote followers of current history.
