Based on the cartoon character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, with illustrations by Joe Shuster and foreword by Josette Frank, staff advisor of the Children's Book Committee of the Child Study Association, this gives the story of this fantastic creature, from the time of his arrival on earth. Miss Frank compares him to Paul unyan, implying that here we have one of the best tall tales of all times. We cannot judge, we are too repelled by the comic strips, by the horrible radio programs by the screen version, by the constant references to this man who has less than no appeal for us. We classify Superman in our home as ""garbage""; even our boys agree with us at this point. If this is a classic we shall reluctantly eat our words but we are quite sure that our judgment is shared by many others.
