Mary Beth Ancona, a founding member of the National Theatre of the Deaf, takes an appealing group of interracial children to the zoo, where they share their delight in the animals and adventure in signing and fingerspelling The high-interest subject, exceptional photos, and infectious joy of all the participants make this an outstanding title to share with both hearing impaired and nonimpaired children. A companion to Handtalk (1986) and Handtalk Birthday (1987), it uses the same techniques of combining photos of children signing, using blurred hands to indicate motion, and fingerspelling. A fingerspelling alphabet and clock are included. Clear, colorful photos show all the animals named; it is almost impossible to view the children signing (monkey, duck, zebra, tiger) without attempting to sign back.
