SEVENTEEN TO SING

This could be double listed here and under the Parents & Teachers heading. Definitely it is a book to use with children, and it was developed as such in the North Shore Country Day School, in Winnetka. Material for holidays is needed to supplement traditional special day songs, and hero are seventeen such songs for Easter, Christmas, Hallowe'en Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, as well as songs keyed to the mood of snowy days and sunny days, spring days and winter days. Some are at four year old level; others appeal to children as advanced as sixth graders. They lack, perhaps, the refreshing originality of Keep Singing, Keep Humming, by Bradford and Woodruff (Scott), but may have a wider range of appeal in more orthodox schools. The verses have considerable freshness; the music seems melodious and singable; the accompaniments are simple enough for the average range of the not too skilled adult. Docie Merwin has done decorative headings in her popular (if somewhat sentimental) style. Two color (pink- which suggested a baby book at first glance), binding and jacket in pink.
