THE BOGEY MAN by George Plimpton

We've read the super-padded Paper Lion; given awards for meager leaguesmanship in Baseball, watched Georgie-boy daintily tapping a triangle under the benevolent direction of Leonard Bernstein on an hour's anti-percussionist television spectacular and now we have the under-par Player of the Weak on the Golf circuit. Plimpton, in natty Argylls and with a (but marvelously malevolent) caddy ricocheted his way across three tournament greens--Bing Crosby's National Pro-Amateur in Montereythe Lucky International in San Francisco and the Bob Hope Desert Classic in Palm Springs. Continually a fore!-word, he even found himself playing with an overhead swing (a ball delicately perched in a tree). Most of the major greats are here with eighteen hole chit--chat along with celebrity puttering--even Phyllis Diller sinks a few one-liners. As for the audience, just look at the gallery, friends!
