HOW THINGS WORK

Science for Young Americans"" -- an introductory popular text on physics, dealing principally with energy -- its manifestations, its production, the uses man has made of various kinds of energy, and about the peculiar qualities of particular substances with relation to various kinds of energy. Splendid material, but both handling and organization are disappointing -- spoiled by marked writing-down, by lack of clearness, by ever simplification on the one hand (assuming knowledge few adult readers possess) and by unnecessarily elaborate explanations on the other.
