THE STORY OF TEXAS by George Sessions Perry

THE STORY OF TEXAS

By

Publisher: Garden City

An authoritative short history by a veteran Texan-of-lesters accounts for the history of the Lone Star State from the time when its territory was first sighted by Alvarez de Pineda ""who was from Jamaica and mapped the Texas coast in 1919"". Though the book opens with an account of the Alamo battle that personified Texas freedom, it goes back to retrace history chronologically and, after the Spanish explorers we learn of Austin and colonization, the pioneering life, Indian wars, Sam Houston and the background of the war with Mexico, the brief years of the republic, the entry into the union and the modern era of bigners. Considerably less glamourized than The Story of Illinois, which is also in this series.
