KIRKUS REVIEW

This second volume of Meet the Bible fills out the author's study of the Old Testament. As in his earlier book, Father Castelot again supplies the reader with background, historical and psychological, which should furnish a key to the understanding of the all important factors in appreciation of the works of the later prophets. In attempting to explain the Bible for the benefit of the non-student, Father Castelot resorts to the use of an excessive number of common clichen and frequently tasteless colloquial language, For example, a prophet is described as having ""learned his lesson"". This series is meant to give the inquiring layman a fuller understanding of the Bible, but it is difficult to see how this will be achieved if this volume is representative. A careful and contemplative rereading of the vast body of literature which records God's progressive preparation for man's redemption -- The Old Testament -- would be a more fruitful way.
