KIRKUS REVIEW

A useful book for students who would get a quick survey of the trends, the development, the embodiment in the work of some score of writers. Not profoundly scholarly, nor particularly original or brilliant, nevertheless the delineation of what is broadly classified as Romantics, Apocalyptics, Temperamentists and Realists is interesting, soundly reasoned. Moderns traced back to earlier writers, this is provocative in a broader sense, and should provide food for discussion in schools, colleges, study groups.
