THE COURSE IS UPWARD

A group of personal, introverted poems which receive their impulse from the binding force of the most fundamental human relationships- parting- which dissolves and restates them at the same time. Although there are other poems more delicately constructed in this book, the first poem- ""Death is a Creek, Backward Flowing"", which is a tender elegy to the poet's deceased father, contains a depth of emotion and connotative image characterizing the succeeding poems which touch upon friends, brothers, parents and the prophetic loneliness of childhood. Occasionally awkward in phrasing, these poems promise more development.
