Festooned with the complete listing of the Attorney General's compilation of subversive organizations as well as by a Ku Klux Klan Klankraft to the imaginative language of that particular demos, this study of contemporary American political fringe groups is amusing, undignified, but somewhat important. The indefatigable author did a good deal of field work and comes up with impressive interviews with American Nazi leader George Lincoln Rockwell and the Minutemen's De Pugh. While few new insights are provided by the book's sections on the Birch Society and such Christian conservative crusaders as Schwarz and Hargis, certainly no one before has tackled the Guam Nationalists, the American Indian Nationalists, the Tax Cut Party, and the Greenbackers. Against the American political grain--Left and Right--the author commendably works his way through the miasmic drear of inhospitable political wastelands where for all the earnest if aeurotic input, few satisfying harvests are ever made.
